I have a friend that believes in TRUE socialism. Emphasis on true because there is no country (at least that I am aware of) that has created a socialist society based on how Carl Max had in his vision. I did a search and found a site that explains his vision pretty well if you are not familiar with the doctrine (click here). I, on the other hand, am all for Capitalism and would like to see a reform of our capitalistic structure. This is not a debate of capitalism vs. Marxism (Socialism), but it is necessary to set this up correctly. Please bear with me. For a pretty good explanation of Capitalism (click here).
My friend and I had a good conversation the other day and I left with a better understanding of myself and my friend as well as a good story. When discussing Socialism I continued to say things like, "Socialism would work if EVERYBODY would do their part and nobody would take advantage of the system, but it is not possible with humans." I guess I just do not believe that us earthly creatures are capable of Socialism which to me approaches "utopia." I told my friend that Socialism sounds a lot like how I hear Heaven described. Then the conversation turned a little and became interesting when my friend said that he agreed Socialism would not work the way other countries have tried and he would have to "hand pick" the people that would be a part of this Socialist Society. At that point I agreed that I would become a part of his Socialist Society if we could hand pick those that we could be sure would do their part, maintain high ethics and work for the common good. Then I said "I believe that is what God is doing for Heaven." He wants to weed out the bad and hand pick the good. Those that learn the bible, appreciate the life that was given to them, believe Jesus died for us and commit themselves to serving God will be allowed into Heaven. By-the-way, many believe Heaven will be here on Earth (on Earth as it is in Heaven), but that is another topic I would like to discuss after reading my book Surprised by Hope.
For some reason the above conversation helped me understand what God might be doing. I hope that it gives you something to think about and I hope this provides a nice transition into discussing Heaven and the messed up view and teaching of Christianity in our society.
